  1. A Computer
A pentium 233 MHz PC with Windows 98/ME/NT/XP or Macintosh Power PC with OS 7.5.3 and Open Transport.
64 MB of RAM and 50 MB of free hard drive space

  2. Ethernet Card
An ethernet card looks much like a modem, but the plug area is slightly larger than a modem plug. An ethernet card will usually also have two lights next to the plug.

This is where the internet data is accepted into the computer via a network cable from your wireless modem (4.)

  3. Wireless Antenna
Depending on the proximity of the Rural Communications Highspeed Wireless tower in your area, you may recieve the external antenna or the internal antenna which is mounted on a window. Both are pointed towards the highspeed tower.

  4. Wireless Modem
This piece of equipment translates data coming from the wireless antenna (3.) and routes information into your ethernet card (2.) via a network cable.

  Optional Equipment - Firewall
Rural Communications recommends a firewall. You can either install a software firewall or a hardware firewall. Firewalls block hackers from accessing your computer through your highspeed internet connection.
Note: A firewall should be used with EVERY broadband connection.

Recommended Software Firewall:

Download ZoneAlarm Pro

Optional Equipment - Wireless Network Router*
If you have multiple computers or maybe an extra laptop and want to set up anywhere in your home, or just be mobile, think about a wireless network router.
